Bangladesh received highest ever remittance in March

Bangladesh received 3.75 billion US dollars in March 26, the highest in record, This March remittance is 13.79% higher than the same month of last year and 24.33% higher than February 26. Eid and war in West Asia are the major reasons for such record wage earners remittance. Bangladesh receipts such record remittance after two sluggish months of January and February.

Traditionally the country receipts highest level remittances before Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Ajha. US-Israel war on Iran made economy of Arab countries volatile and uncertain. The uncertainty might made expatriate Bangladeshis to save money in the home country.

Bangladesh Taka has devaluated slightly after start of Iran War because of high petroleum prices in the global market. That could be another reason for sending higher remittance in the month of March.

The Daily Star reported that Asian Development Bank (ADB), in a report, said Bangladesh and other South Asian countries could face lower remittances from the Middle East as the ongoing conflict in the region weakens labour demand and squeezes migrant worker incomes.

Nearly half of Bangladesh’s more than $30 billion in annual remittances comes from the West Asia. Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait together accounted for 86 percent of Bangladeshi migrant workers who secured jobs abroad in FY25, according to the Bangladesh Economic Review 2025.
