Expatriates remitted US$3.02 billion in February, up 19.4 percent from US$2.53 billion in the same month a year earlier. The amount is US$ 150 million lower than January and US$ 202 million lower than last December. The remittance flow has been shrinking during last two months.
Traditionally remittances increase before and during Ramadan, as remitters tend to send larger amounts in this season for families to celebrate the Eid festival, which is the largest religious festival in Bangladesh. Contrary to the tradition, the country received lower remittances from expatriates in first half of Ramadan and the month before.
During last 12 months Bangladesh received US$34.29 billion and the year-to-date (YTD) current fiscal year receipts were US$22.45 billion against US$18.49 billion in the same period in FY25, an increase by 21.41%.
Higher remittance receipts in FY25 and first eight months of FY26 helps building national foreign currency reserve.
